Logen Ninefingers

Logen is a battle scarred and gruff average sized human. He has a deep gash that runs across the right side of his face and across his right eye keeping it shut nearly all of the time. Logen is missing the middle finger on his right hand.

Description:

Nature – Logen is bold but prudent. He is thoughtful and reserved – often pensive. Once he’s made his mind, he’s rarely swayed but he isn’t quick to judge or anger. He is very quiet and unassuming.

He is average sized for a human. He prefers to observe and allow his opponent to underestimate him. His stature and build along with his personality often help with this misconception. He relishes it.

When he does get angry however it appears like another persona takes over (“Bloody Nine”, explained in background).

He does not make acquaintances easily and having been surrounded by war and tragedy since a very early age he is used to death and separation. That said once he makes comrades, he is fiercely loyal and loathes betrayal.

Maladies/Appearance – Logen is battle scarred and gruff. He is not a hulking monstrosity as much as well built and wily. He has a deep gash down the right side of his face that runs across his right eye. Although he has not lost the function of his right eye, it is rarely open more than a crack. When Logen rages, the “Bloody Nine” persona or alter-ego takes over and Logen’s right eye comes fully open. He is known to shed tears of blood from the eye while raging. Those who have seen this have remarked the tears are for those he has killed in the throws of his rage.

Logen is missing the middle finger on his right hand – a vestige lost in a brutal encounter when he lost his family and found the “Bloody Nine.” Logen only remembers bits and pieces of this traumatic encounter although as time passes he becomes aware of more pieces of the incident.

Logen carries a large executioner’s axe nearly everywhere he goes. He is also known to carry several hand axes and knives all over his body. As is father preached, “you can never have too many weapons.”

Bio:

RefugeeEberron’s Player Guide – Logen lost his home when his settlement was overrun by orcs and other horrors he is only now starting to remember. Logen was fairly young and was forced to watch his mother and sisters brutally raped and tortured. He awoke days later in an alley of a foreign city covered in blood, missing his right middle finger and suffering from amnesia. His memories of the incident are fractured and incomplete. They have been returning to him in time.

He survived the incident, by escaping into the back of his mind and in doing so discovered his second persona or alter ego. This persona has been affectionately called “Bloody Nine” by the men at arms Logen has served with in battle. Logen’s unassuming and laid back personality changes to that of a savage and uncontrollable beat that relishes and figuratively feeds on death and dismemberment.

The “Bloody Nine” is often triggered when he sees violence towards women or innocence, or when his friends are in trouble. He is unable to communicate with the Nine and often has little to no recollection of the actions he takes when the Nine is in control.

Caravan ScoutEberron’s Player’s Guide – Unable to live surrounded by people any longer and without any sense of home, Logen picked up work as soon as he was able as a caravan guard and scout. He looked forward to the solitude of the vast plains and forests he trekked through and their majestic beauty, and relished the opportunity to defend the caravan against brigands and cutthroats.

Accursed LineageDragon #371 – Logen remembers very little of his father – mostly quips, phrases and words of advise. There were rumors around the town he lived in, but his mother would never confirm or deny anything. He gathered his father wasn’t much of a home body and was quite to find an escape from domesticated life. He wonders from time to time about whether his family really was cursed as the rumors suggested. Does the curse have anything to do with who his father was or did?

FrostfellEberron’s Player’s Guide – Logen originally hails from the frigid north at the frontier of settlement.

DroaamEberron’s Player’s Guide – Logen often accepted scouting and guarding duties on caravan routes through Droaam. The land teems with giants, gargoyles, trolls and orcs. Logen found purpose in exacting a little revenge should marauders come across his caravan trail.

Lost KinDragon #371 – Logen returned to his settlement in the North when he was well enough to travel but was unable to find any remnants or evidence of his sisters or mother. Although he does not wish to imagine what their situation may be now if they’re even alive, and though he knows it is unrealistic to hope for their survival, he hopes for at least closure.

Logen also knows very little about his father, what he did, where he went, why, etc… He also has not found any evidence of where he might be or if he lives.
